Casually folding paper was the first step in the series ‘Modifying Reality’. The act of manipulating and altering has always been something that I crave to perform in my work. This comes from the feeling that the world around us progressively consists of not the reality, but reproductions of it.
This phenomenon/event is visible in consumerism; in the way we have a thirst for the extent of owning things, but also in photography: When we capture something, we actually ’take’ a piece of reality, and make it a reproduction of what we saw through the lens. This feeling of artifice and reproduction caused me to create my own artificial spaces, while mostly using photographs. In this way, the images in the series become a copy (the final image that I am displaying) of a reproduction (the used photo).
