While the once vast nature is slowly vanishing, technology has taken its place, and has become a big part of our lives. Having this in mind, a student of Graphic Design and myself collaborated to make an installation about this subject. We used the three most threatened plant species in The Netherlands as a starting point – this would be a metaphor for the fact that nature is disappearing.

Based on pictures and drawings, we translated the plants into digitally animated versions of themselves. A certain system in the black box that we set up caused a resemblance of a hologram, so that the digitalised plants became ‘alive’. In this way, we confronted the viewer the question if technology could eventually displace nature, in an environment where this situation is already happening – in a rapid pace.
